KDP Chair Statement on Juneteenth 2021
The following is a statement from Colmon Elridge, Chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party:
“From our KDP family, to yours, happy Juneteenth!
In this first time we celebrate the final liberation of slaves in our nation as the Juneteenth federal holiday, we must continue to stand on the side of freedom. The freedom to vote, the freedom of equal justice under law, the freedom to live black and unafraid in America, continue to be freedoms denied in full. It is clear that as the message of emancipation took too long to reach the final enslaved people of color, the message of equal opportunity under law continues to evade far too many.
We join all who have worked tirelessly in making today’s national holiday a reality and stand with all who continue the work of taking the promise of freedom and turning it into a reality of liberty and justice for all.”
