New Financial Disclosure Reveals Daniel Cameron Lied About Involvement with Group tied to Attacks on the Capitol in January

Recently filed Financial Disclosure Forms reveal that Attorney General Daniel Cameron is a director of the Rule of Law Defense Fund, a dark money Super PAC that hosted the rally on January 6, 2021 that resulted in an insurrectionist attack on the U.S. Capitol.

On January 11, Cameron distanced himself from RLDF, claiming he had no knowledge of the organization’s involvement in the rally and the robocalls sent out encouraging people to attend.

From the Courier-Journal:

“No, I was not aware of those,” he said of the robocall the RLDF sent out to various recipients. “I think other organizations that were specific to that robocallmade it clear that none of the attorneys general were aware of that robocall.”

Cameron’s comments make it seem like an organization that he is not part of was responsible for the robocall. According to NBC News and the Alabama Political Reporter, the Rule of Law Defense Fund was the organization who paid for the robocalls and Cameron’s disclosure specifically says he had a fiduciary responsibility in the Rule of Law Defense Fund as a director. Cameron failed to disclose that information to the public at the time, despite calls for him to be open and transparent.

The Kentucky Democratic Party called on Cameron to fully reveal his ties to the organization on January 9, two days before Cameron was asked directly about his involvement with the group.

It’s not the first time Cameron has misled or lied to the public. Cameron lied about his involvement in the Breonna Taylor grand jury during a press conference, and then lied again at least five more times in an interview after the press conference.

In a statement, Kentucky Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa McNee said Daniel Cameron’s disdain for transparency and honesty with the public is unacceptable.

“It’s clear that Daniel Cameron has a problem with the truth. He lied about Breonna Taylor and now he’s trying to mislead the public again about his direct involvement and oversight of a group tied up in the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol. This pattern of evasiveness and dishonesty is extremely troubling. He owes the public a full explanation of his behavior.”
