VIDEO: Bevin Continues to Hide from Record of Ripping Away Health Care from Kentucky Families

This weekend Matt Bevin continued to try to hide from his disastrous record of trying to rip away health coverage from Kentucians with pre-existing conditions by blatantly lying to Eastern Kentuckians at the Harlan County Bicentennial Forum.

At the Forum, Matt Bevin said: “There is nobody who has lost coverage because of a pre-existing condition. There is nothing that has ever been advocated at the state or federal level, that would ever take away somebody’s health care coverage due to a pre-existing condition. So don’t allow yourselves to be lied to.”

Despite Bevin’s attempts to rewrite his own failed record, as recently as this summer Bevin joined a lawsuit that would allow insurance companies to deny essential coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, including prescription drug coverage, mental health services, maternity care, hospitalization, and chronic disease management and more. Leading the American Medical Association to say that the policy would “revive pre-existing condition discrimination.”

And in September, Bevin refused to support a bill that would codify protections for people with pre-existing health conditions into state law. Even going so far as to say, “I think we should go back” to high-risk insurance pools that were a nightmare for Kentuckians.

Bevin also supported repealing federal health reforms, which would have gutted protections for Kentuckians with pre-existing conditions.

“Matt Bevin is trying to run from his record of tearing away health care from Kentucky families,” said Marisa McNee, Kentucky Democratic Party Spokesperson. “Kentuckians should know the truth: under Bevin’s health care agenda, insurance companies could leave Kentuckians with pre-existing conditions out to dry. He’d let insurance companies deny coverage for prescription drugs, mental health services, maternity care and more.”
