We will gather from 4pm to 7pm, June 22, 2019 at Issac Murphy Memorial Art Garden (577 East Third St) to celebrate the 4th Annual Juneteenth Celebration hosted by Juneteenth Lexington. Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and the following emancipation of enslaved black Americans throughout the former Confederate States of America. Museums and organizations across the country celebrate Juneteenth and it’s a really important holiday for black Americans in Kentucky.

The event will have food, vendors, live music performances, poetry, and a panel discussion.

“Community is an environment where you can find a home in each other’s heart and soul. It is a living entity with spirit as its anchor, where a group of people are empowered by one another, by spirit, and by the ancestors to be themselves, carry out their purpose, and use their power responsibly.” Sobonfu Some
