KDP Statement on Jaime Harrison’s Election as DNC Chair

The following is a statement from Colmon Elridge, Chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party:

On behalf of the Kentucky Democratic Party, I want to send our heartfelt congratulations to my friend, Jamie Harrison, on his election to be the next Chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Chairman Harrison is a son of the south, and as the former Chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party, understands the needs of rural parties like ours. He has shown not only through his leadership of his state party, but during his historic bid to unseat Sen. Lindsey Graham, that speaking plainly and truthfully to the people and never running from our values, but on them, we can move forward.

Now more than ever, we understand the necessity of having a stronger party. Republican supermajorities in the state legislature, statewide majorities in constitutional offices, and even at the local level, has meant they have the power to declare war on working families, voters, educators, our brothers and sisters in labor, and on the right to vote. It has meant that the most radical and fringe of their party can prevert and abuse the rules of the legislature to consider the disgusting impeachment of Gov. Andy Beshear, whose only offense, is that he’s not a Republican.

Their playbook is not theirs. They’ve inherited it from other state parties. That is why it will be more critical than ever to have leadership at the national level who can lead us to defeat their toxic agenda everywhere. We will do our part, and I am elated we have a true ally in Chairman Harrison.

We send our thanks to outgoing Chairman Tom Perez for this tireless leadership and unwavering belief in people powered politics. Because of his leadership our party nationally has retaken the House, Senate, and Presidency, and in states have reclaimed state legislatures and Governorships, including the election of Gov. Beshear.

Joining Chairman Harrison will be a dynamic group of leaders and patriots, who have given their all to serving our nation, their states, and this party. Our new leadership also includes:
Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Vice Chair of Civic Engagement and Voter Protection; Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Vice Chair; Senator Tammy Duckworth, Vice Chair; Rep. Filemon Vela Jr., Vice Chair; Jason Rae, Secretary; Virginia McGregor, Treasurer; and Chris Korge, National Finance Chair.

On behalf of all Kentucky Democrats, we are rooting for you, we are praying for you, we are thankful for you, and we are ready to get to work building a more perfect union with you.
