FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, less than 24 hours after a Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) press conference on federal support for Kentucky schools, KDP Chair Colmon Elridge released a statement on Trump’s expected executive order to dismantle the vital resource that is the U.S. Department of Education.
Kentucky receives more than $1.4 billion dollars in federal education funding and an estimated $182 million through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, which the Department of Education administers.
“The U.S. Department of Education enables Kentucky schools to put meals on lunch tables for hungry children, train teachers to develop specialized learning plans for students with disabilities and help more families to send kids to college, often for the first time. Members of Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, must do whatever it takes to fight this unconstitutional, irresponsible and shameful order.”
